KVPY is an intermediate-level scholarship exam that is conducted by the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) Bangalore. KVPY is the abbreviation of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana whose purpose is to provide admissions to Undergraduate Science Courses of B.S. in IISC, IISER, IIIT Hyderabad, and CVCE with Fellowship during basic science Studies and Free Entry to all National Libraries in India. This exam tests your skills and knowledge of SA Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology (any three for Part 1and any two for Part 2.)
It is an online-based paper conducted for 3 hours that is offered once a year by the government of India. The exams are funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India which aims at encouraging students to take up research careers in the areas of basic sciences. It provides scholarships and contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D. level to the qualified students. It was started in the year 1999 and is administered by the Indian Institute of Sciences. The students who qualify in the KVPY exam are entitled to a fellowship and admission into institutes like the IISER and IISc which are based on additional criteria. The exam has 3 Streams: SB (First year BSc), SX (Class 12), and SA (Class 11). Stream SP Basic Sciences (Class 11, 12, and First-year BSc, B.Tech) and SP Medicine (First-year MBBS) was discontinued from 2021-13.

The students who qualify for the KVPY exams are awarded: -
The qualified students are eligible for fellowship which they receive from the 1st year of their graduation.
The qualified students receive Rs. 5000 monthly fellowship from 1st to 3rd year of B.S./ B.Stat/ B. Maths/B.Sc/ Integrated M.Sc/M.S. and a yearly contingency grant of Rs.20000. After three years the fellowship is increased to Rs.7000 per month and during M.Sc/4th and 5th year of Integrated M.Sc/M.S. and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 28000.
The candidates selected in Kishore Vaigyanik Protshan Yojana (KVPY) fellows are also eligible to get the DST Inspire Scholarship granted by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) Government of India worth Rs. 80000 yearly.
